How to Recycle Your Christmas Tree

All of the presents have been opened, the decorations have come down, and almost everyone feels like they need to go on a diet. That’s right, the Christmas season is over, and now you will have to decide what to do with your Christmas tree. Luckily, your Birmingham moving company knows of a few options.

While some neighborhoods let you recycle your Christmas tree right on the curb for pickup, other residents may bring theirs to a designated drop-off center. This year, Birmingham hopes that people will take advantage of a recycling event put on by the Mountain Brook Tree Commission and the Birmingham Zoo. The program allows you to drop your tree off right at the Birmingham Zoo picnic area, next to the parking lot. You have until January 12th, so get there sooner than later!

The Birmingham Zoo will recycle your Christmas tree into fresh mulch that they will use for things like erosion prevention around the zoo’s grounds. Make sure to remove all decorations, garland and wire, because they will not be able to put it in the chipper otherwise. This is a great program for the Birmingham community, since the trees will have a purpose after Christmas and will not be taking up any room in the community’s valuable landfills.

If your neighborhood allows you to leave your tree on the curbside, it will be picked up and used as mulch for the city’s landscaping. To see a full list of drop-off locations, click here. If you have recently moved to Birmingham, we hope that you had a great first holiday season here!
